In 2015, more than 3,500 venues around the world mixed their favorite variations and raised over $320,000 for charitable causes.

This year, it will take place from June 6-12. Don’t forget to keep tabs the action via Imbibe’s Instagram and Twitter feeds (@imbibe) and by following the #NegroniWeek hashtag.

History

While the drink’s origins are unknown, the most widely reported account is that it was firstly mixed in Florence, Italy, in 1919, at Caffè Casoni, ex Caffè Giacosa located in via Tornabuoni and now called Caffè Roberto Cavalli. Count Camillo Negroni concocted it by asking the bartender, Fosco Scarselli, to strengthen his favorite cocktail, the Americano, by adding gin rather than the normal soda water. The bartender also added an orange garnish rather than the typical lemon garnish of the Americano to signify that it was a different drink.
